Arti Kapur
Arti Kapur has spent more than twenty years making homes that feel found rather than furnished. Old wood is given a second life, white walls are left to breathe, and colour arrives in exactly one place.
The studio
Arti Kapur Design Studio is a boutique practice: Arti and a small team of carpenters, painters and makers she has worked with for years. The studio designs whole homes and single rooms, styles rooms that are already built, makes furniture by hand to its own drawings, and restores antique doors, jharokha panels and cabinets so they can live in modern homes. The studio is based in Mumbai; most projects are in Mumbai and Delhi NCR, and homes elsewhere in India are taken on by arrangement.
How Arti works
A site visit and a long conversation before any drawing. The whole home designed on paper, with a costed schedule, before the first purchase. Design fees shown separately from execution. Arti on site every week through the finish. What you own restored before anything is replaced.
The language
Lime-washed walls. Antique carved doors and jharokha panels repainted in one bright, chipped colour. Cane, brass, mosaic, terracotta underfoot and plants in every window. Colour arrives in exactly one place and stays there.
Four services
Interior design, home decor and styling, custom furniture and artistic design revamps. Four series name the studio's recurring moods: The White Love, Happy Hues, Yin and Yang, and Nurtured by Nature.
